Two things, unrelated
The first thing: I wrote a couple of drabbles for [info]queerditch_pub yesterday:

Harry/Snape, the legend on a map:

"Here?"

"Yes…."

Harry had never explained to anyone what his tattoo meant. Lines like wire curved around his torso and groin, a deep black magically charmed not to fade to blue after time. He'd had the tattoo applied in the traditional Muggle fashion, and he felt Snape's touch over the marks like the buzz of the tattoo pen, making all of his senses focus on one small point.

"And here."

"Yes, oh…."

Snape didn't need an explanation from Harry. The meaning of the tattoo was obvious from the minute he'd seen Harry naked, fresh from the needle and still sore around the edges. It was the legend on the map of his body, a guide to the places no one but Snape could touch, and to the treasure that was buried beneath his skin.

"You didn't need to make it this obvious, you know," said Snape, his fingertips just below Harry's ribs, where a line of ink twisted around his waist to his hip.

"You're the only one it's obvious to."

---

Harry/Rufus Scrimgeour, the cleansing of the Aegean stables:

"You know, Harry, we all respect you at the Ministry. I know we've had some differences in the past, but we all have a common goal to work toward, don't we?"

"Oh, please. That offer's like…like the Aegean stables."

"The what?"

"You know I was raised as a Muggle. I didn't have a lot of friends as a kid, so I spend a lot of time reading. I used to love this book on Greek mythology, and the story of Heracles. He was this really strong man who had to perform twelve tasks, and one of them was to clean out some stables that hadn't been cleaned in about ten years. The man who owned them had cows and sheep and horses, everything. Heracles had to clean all their stables in a day."

"I understand, Harry. You see joining forces with the Ministry as a nearly insurmountable task, one that will take great strength to accomplish, and one of many tasks that you will have to undertake in our fight against He Who Must Not Be Named."

"Well, no. I just think your offer's full of shit."

---

The second thing: Not long ago, I was in the car with Mr. Cedar and Solsbury Hill came on the radio. I've always found Peter Gabriel pretty boring, but this is one of about three songs of his I like, so I kept the radio on. And near the end of the song, I said to Mr. Cedar, "Am I the only one who thinks this song tells the story of the Passion from Jesus' point of view, only more obliquely?"

"You know," he replied, "I never thought of it that way, but I don't disagree with you."

Just a thought.

(Of course, if that is what Peter Gabriel had intended all along, I am either better at interpreting text than I thought I was or I'm 30 years late to the party.)

I think that you're right about Solsbury Hill. It's not terribly surprising since Peter Gabriel was the one to compose the soundtrack for the Last Temptation of Christ, also, incidentally, called The Passion.

Have you heard his, 'Here Comes the Flood?' It's his best, although 'I Grieve' is also good, and so is, 'I Have the Touch' and 'In Your Eyes'.

I like the drabbles, expecially the second one, it's got me cracking up :)

Of those, I've heard "Here Comes the Flood" and "In Your Eyes," and neither one of them thrills me. While I like a good slow song as much as the next person, I think my problem with Gabriel is that he has no spark. All his songs (except for the three I like, and the other two are "Red Rain" and "Rhythm of the Heat") just kind of sound the same and a little too laid back for me. For all the sense that makes.

That makes sense. I think that I like his slow songs because I've always associated them with the soundtracks that I originally heard them on. "Here Comes the Flood" makes me cry every single time I hear it.

You might like "I Have the Touch," it's a good deal more offbeat, and a little wild, like "Solsbury Hill" gets in the end. "I Grieve" also gets wild in the end, though it starts very, very slow, one of those things that builds.

This line has made my day. Thank you.

Lovely drabbles! The second made me snicker madly, and the first... somehow, that *spoke* to me although I'm usually rather turned off by tattoos in fic (unless it's the Dark Mark). But the guide to the secret places on Harry's body... that's beautiful, and shows the intensity of their relationship. Gorgeous image!

Note to self: Do not mention tattoo that Cedar's fanfic!Harry has on his right shoulder when writing fic for Hijja.

And just so I've got some lead time, anything in particular you want for your holiday fic? Het? Slash? Gen? Particular characters? KInks?

Slash or gen, if I can pick. A Slytherin/Gryffindor clash would be neat :). I *do* get off on mindgames of all types, and if you *want* to stroll into slash, on anything that's not quite outright fluffy consent ;). Apart from that, the kinks you tend to write rock my socks every time anyway, so, no preferences ;).

You? I confess I'd love a bit of prodding in the kind of direction you want me to go :). Pairings, characters, prompts? Something you always wanted to see written (as long as it's not Percy/Olympe with crossdressing...)?

I've heard that "Solsbury Hill" is about Gabriel's leaving Genesis, but I've never paid enouth attention to the words to know for sure.

huh. For some odd reason, I thought you really loved all of Peter Gabriel's music. I wonder why I thought that?
