Not everything is in Google
Reading the Google blog today (look! I'm behind on reading my feeds! surprise!), I noticed this message about an open house of sorts tonight at their new Pittsburgh offices.

The funny comes in the location of said office. They've mapped it here. Their offices are maybe a 5-minute walk from the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. Look at the map. See the yellow line to the left marked "Bellefield Ave.," and see where it intersects with Forbes Ave.? Yeah, that'd be the library. Keep going north on Bellefield, past 5th but before you cross Bayard, and that's the University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences.

So then I have to wonder: If there's a question Google can't answer, will they do the logical thing and walk down the street to the library? Also, am I a bad librarian for thinking, "Cool, more job opportunities for librarians in Pittsburgh?" I miss living there so much.

Huh, I've been wondering where their office was.

And, no, probably not. Because "everythings on the internet now" - at least according to some of the suits at Hospital #2.

Delurking to say that:

1. As a school librarian, I love your blog.

2. As a person who has lived in Pittsburgh my entire life and went to library school at the University of Pittsburgh (I lived in the SIS building), I can say that the Google offices are actually a lot further than one might think. But I'm pretty sure being excited about more job opportunities for librarians in Pittsburgh doesn't make you a bad librarian :)

ETA: Okay, so actually closer than I thought. I am no good with directions.

The answers to your questions are "no" and "HELL no."

I'd hire you in a heartbeat, chickadee. Then again, I'm a teensy bit biased. :)
