I blame pinkfinity for this. Thank you, loff. I've been meaning to write a decent-length SPN fic for some time, and I love writing gen, so I was really happy when Heidi told me about signups for spn_summergen. The big reveal is now live, so I can be all public and say that I wrote Fire of Known Origin for missyjack, who, um, doesn't know I exist. dettiot did the beta and hand-holding. Can I also be proud that I wrote the only first-person fic in the fest? I'm proud that wrote the only first-person fic in the fest. It was easier than it should have been, which is either totally great or totally frightening. Fire of Known Origin. Supernatural gen, Dean-centric, rated R for violence and language, ignores the information and events from "No Rest for the Wicked" and "Malleus Maleficarum" but is otherwise canon-compliant. missyjack's prompt was "Dean in hell (crack or horror)." ( Before I sold my soul, I had been convinced that Hell looked like Disneyland. )Tags: fic, spn 126: thirsty

For fandomers: Define hurt/comfort, and the elements that must be seen, or that usually appear, in a hurt/comfort fic. And to satisfy my curiosity, list the fandoms in which you participate (reading, writing, art, discussing, etc.). If hurt/comfort means something different in each of your fandoms, say so. I ask because I've been playing in a new fandom as of late, and during a discussion with my beta, she said something that made me realize that I'm not sure what makes for a hurt/comfort fic. Humor me? Am world's worst LJ friend of late. I apologize. Pumpkin spice lattes for everyone except countouttheday, who gets a shaken iced tea. Entry from last week that I'm just finishing now because OMG have 20 books to read in the next 2 weeks: Now that authors and artists have been revealed at merry_smutmas, I can say that I didn't fool kennahijja for a second. I wrote A Wolf by Half for pocketfullof. Link is not safe for work, children, hardcore poets, those who don't like fanfic, or lycanthrophobes. (Lycanphobes? Lycanthrophobics? People who fear werewolves.) In the end, this fic turned out really well, I think, but it was HARD to write. Many thanks and love go to starrysummer for beta reading, and to fasterthanlight for use of "fucking-damn." Also, SO MUCH thank you to hogwarts_today for listing it as an Editor's Pick. ( About the process of writing this fic. Feel free to skip. )Oy, I am TIRED. And I have to WRITE and CLEAN, meh. Billie Holiday - I've Got My Love to Keep Me WarmTags: fic, writing 126: cold

1. Please vote for me in the 2006 Featured Story of the Year poll for The Quidditch Pitch. Nominated fics are LtFG in "Bad Moon Rising," Random Acts of Kindness... in "Remains of the Day," An Ancient Magic and The Palmer Method in "Dark Tales" (I think An Ancient Magic is my favorite story I've written this year), and Time and Tithe in "The Broomshed: The Dark Side." If you vote for me, you will get...my eternal gratitude. (I have an overdue book review and three fics to finish; alas, no time for writing drabbles.) 2. My merry_smutmas fic just threw up all over me. But I can fix it. I have to fix it or gmth will throttle me. 3. If you're a Morality for Beautiful Slytherins reader, first, THANK YOU, second, chapter 5 is a bit more delayed than I thought because I have this horrible thing in my brain that makes me forget that just because I can see everything and know everything, that doesn't mean the reader can. (Translation: I need editing.) It's like that old watch joke: "Does your watch tell time?" "No, I have to look at it." Also, I am achy and have a sore throat and am weak but not tired. Stupid body. The first thing: I wrote a couple of drabbles for queerditch_pub yesterday: ( Harry/Snape, the legend on a map, rated R )( Harry/Rufus Scrimgeour, dealing with the cleansing of the Aegean stables, because it was just irresistible and if I do say so myself this is probably the second-best drabble I've ever written. Rated PG for a swear word )The second thing: Not long ago, I was in the car with Mr. Cedar and Solsbury Hill came on the radio. I've always found Peter Gabriel pretty boring, but this is one of about three songs of his I like, so I kept the radio on. And near the end of the song, I said to Mr. Cedar, "Am I the only one who thinks this song tells the story of the Passion from Jesus' point of view, only more obliquely?" "You know," he replied, "I never thought of it that way, but I don't disagree with you." Just a thought. (Of course, if that is what Peter Gabriel had intended all along, I am either better at interpreting text than I thought I was or I'm 30 years late to the party.) On Saturday, Mr. Cedar and I took Beezus and Ramona to a local spay/neuter clinic to get them appointments to be spayed. When the vet is ready to see the animals, the receptionist calls their names so their humans can bring them in. When it was Beezus and Ramona's turn, the receptionist called, "Beatrice? And there's one more...Ramona, is it?" I picked up the carrier, affirming that yes, they had the right names, and a woman in her sixties or so sitting on the opposite side of the room said, "Awww, Beezus and Ramona! Cute names!" And everyone in the waiting room thought they were very cute. Because they are. Once they were in their meeting with the vet (they're healthy and cleared to get fixed, yay!), the vet petted Beezus for a minute and said, "She has really neat markings. Kind of like a little cow, you know?" My only knowledge of farm life kicked in at that moment and I said, "Yeah, she's a Holstein." Three days later, I'm still congratulating on myself for naming the right breed of cow. --- saeva made this icon for me with her mad icon-making skillz. --- I made it to queerditch_pub last night and here are the drabbles I wrote. All drabbles are appropriate for all audiences old enough to have LiveJournal accounts. ( Sirius/Remus - cathedral )( James/Regulus - Quidditch lockers )Tags: fic
